Participants in the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media, organized by the Bulgarian  News Agency (BTA), honoured the memory and the work of the Bulgarian poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev in the city of Izmail, Ukraine, by laying flowers at the bust-monument to the Bulgarian national hero in the courtyard of Izmail State Humanitarian University.

The Bulgarian delegation was welcomed by the Rector of the University, Prof. Yaroslav Kichuk. He will also take part in the last discussion panel of the forum titled "Science and Universities as Appearing in Bulgarian Media".

The bust-monument to Hristo Botev in the town of Izmail is located in the courtyard of the main campus of the Izmail State Humanitarian University. It was unveiled on March 20, 1978. The date was on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. "We even want to do reconstruction this year," Nikolai Ivanov, chairman of the Izmail St. Sofia Municipality, told the audience. "The Bolhrad organisations are keen to build an alley dedicated to the Bulgarian revivalists. Today is a nice day. The victory will be for Ukraine," he said.

A Hristo Botev memorial plaque on the building of the Izmail Polytechnical Lyceum was restored and unveiled on September 5, 2020 on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria. In the 19th century, this site was the location of the state church school where Botev taught Bulgarian in 1869-70. The first plaque at this place was placed in 1980 by Mihail Nedopak and broke up over time. It has been restored according to the sketches of the previous sculptor with the joint efforts of the four local organizations: the St. Sofia Izmail Municipality, the St. Sofia Society, the St. Cyril and Methodius Society, the Hristo Botev Society and the Rodnini Association of Bulgarian Families in Bessarabia.
