"I will not agree with my colleagues from abroad that Bulgarians abroad are not present enough in the media. I am sorry, they are present enough," bTV reporter Desislava Rizova said at the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media, which is taking place in Ukraine. She took part in the panel "Bulgarians around the world in the media".

Rizova gave the example of a kidnapped sailor from a Bessarabian village during an attack in the Kerch Strait. She and a cameraman traveled 3,000 kilometers to go to the site, find his family and tell his story, and have his family contact the Russian authorities or pray for mercy and better treatment for this man.

"When there is a story and when there is a real need, Bulgaria pays attention," she said. People in Ukraine, she said, have learned to live with war. Life goes on and these people are real heroes in that they learned to live in these conditions, she noted.

I congratulate these people and I assure them that Bulgarians around the world, when it is necessary and when something important happens, whether it is good or bad, the Bulgarian media has an eye, has a sensitivity for what they are going through and I hope this will continue to be the case, Rizova noted. She said she has never turned down an assignment "because it sucks" or "because it's unpleasant." "This is our job," the bTV journalist said.

The theme of this year's meeting is "Media and Community" and the event is held on-site and via video conference. The forum will be on until June 21, and the discussions will take place in three cities - Odesa, Bolhrad and Izmail, where there are large Bulgarian communities.

BTA is organizing the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail, Ukraine, from June 18 to June 21, 2024. The event is taking place with the support of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy Holding AD, Euroins Insurance Group, Postbank, SOF Connect, and the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
