A Russian ballistic missile attack in the Ukrainian province of Odesa left one dead and eight injured on Friday, Odesa Province Governor Oleh Kiper said.

Kiper offered his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

In his words, five of the injured have been hospitalized, and the rest received medical assistance on the spot.

All rescue and emergency services are working at the scene to deal with the aftermath of the missile attack, the Odesa Province Governor added.

Odesa Province is home to the third largest community of expatriate Bulgarians, numbering more than 150,000 people, according to an official population census in Ukraine in 2001. Between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians live in the provincial capital, Odesa. Bulgarians in the province are concentrated in the districts of Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.
