site.bta52 Bulgaria-Related Places in Hungary Now on Google Maps
Fifty-two places in Hungary related to Bulgarian events, presence of prominent Bulgarians in this country, as well as to the history of the local Bulgarian community, can now be found on Google Maps, Svetla Kioseva told BTA. Kioseva is a translator of Hungarian poetry and prose, a lecturer in Budapest and editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian-Hungarian culture and social life magazine Hemus.
Thanks to the places mapped, one can trace the path of the Bulgarian army in the final stage of World War II by visiting its memorial parks in southern Hungary, which are maintained by the local people and Bulgarian institutions in the country.
One can see the places where monuments to Bulgarian writers Ivan Vazov and Atanas Dalchev are raised, as well as two monuments to communist Georgi Dimitrov, tucked away in Memento Park in Budapest, where statues from Hungary’s Communist period can be found.
Tourists can also get acquainted with places related to the history of the Bulgarian gardening community or quench their thirst at one of the drinking fountains erected in memory of Bulgarian gardeners. They can also discover places where Bulgarians gather.
The project is implemented within the framework of the Untold Stories of the Bulgarians programme of the Bulgarian Education and Science Ministry, which started in 2023.
Work on the project continues. Further expeditions are planned to explore and map more places related to Bulgaria and to describe them in more detail.
