An information campaign about training women in agriculture with a focus on resource-efficient farming and sustainable agricultural practices was held in Taraclia's Vasil Levski youth centre on Friday.

The event was organized by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova under the project "Emergency Support for Agri-Producers in the Context of Socio-Economic, Climate And Energy Crisis".

Deputy Chair of Taraclia region Andrei Baltakov opened the meeting and wished all the participants a fruitful training and achievement of their goals using their new knowledge at work.

During the meeting, women have learned how to introduce new technologies in the agriculture sector, from digital systems of soil monitoring to making intelligent decisions about watering and hail and frost protection. Participants also discussed how climate change affect the conditions for agriculture and the environment. The importance of biodiversity, business development and the financial side of the sector were covered as well.

The joint project of UNDP and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is financed by the Austrian Development Agency and Switzerland under the Develop the Potential of Women in Agriculture programme.

"This project encourages women entrepreneurs to implement solutions to benefit renewable and energy efficient technologies. The project will provide at least 30 grants through UNDP to implement selected projects," the organizers said.

There are more than 20 women in the Taraclia region who own micro, small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises in horticulture, floriculture, vegetable and fruit cultivation and cheese production.
