During a visit to the Cuban city of Cienfuegos last week, a delegation of the Bulgarian Embassy in the island country, led by Ambassador Todor Kanchevski, presented an idea to hold Days of Bulgarian Culture in April, the Embassy wrote on its Facebook page. The festival is proposed to coincide with the 205th anniversary of the establishment of Cienfuegos and the 45th anniversary of the inauguration of a local Bulgarian-built plastic products plant.

The Vassil Levski Plant was built by Bulgarian workers and furnished with Bulgarian equipment. Bulgarian experts worked there until the end of the 1980s. A monument to Bulgarian freedom-fighter Vassil Levski was put up in the yard of the plant in 1981, which was the 1,300th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian state.

The Embassy suggested that the Days of Bulgarian Culture in Cienfuegos could involve a competition for drawing a portrait of Vassil Levski in local schools. A guest from Bulgaria could deliver lectures to school-goers about traditional Bulgarian embroidery and open an exhibition highlighting the Bulgarian alphabet in an art gallery.

The sides agreed that the festival will culminate in a ceremony in the garden in front of Levski's monument, where the winners in the drawing competition will be awarded, the Embassy said.
