The Council of Ministers decided to propose to President Rumen Radev to confer the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, First Class on historian Nikola Karaivanov for his remarkable contribution to the education and culture of the Bulgarian community in Ukraine, the Government Information Service reported on Wednesday.
Karaivanov regularly writes historical articles for Roden Krai (Homeland), a newspaper of Bulgarians in Ukraine. Between 1998 and 2002, he was a lecturer delegated by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science and a history teacher at the Bolhrad High School of Bessarabian Bulgarians in Southern Ukraine. He has worked at the Personnel Retraining Institute in Gabrovo, Central Bulgaria and at the Central Institute for Upgrading Teachers' Qualifications in Sofia.
Karaivanov is also very active in teaching outside the classroom, visiting many Bulgarian villages and delivering lectures to school students and members of the general public. He heads the Rodolyubets Association for Relations with Bulgarians in Bessarabia and Tauria.
