PM Denkov: Bulgaria Works Actively for Improving Connectivity in Eastern Europe
Bulgaria continues to work actively with its neighbours to develop transport, energy and digital ties, said Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov during the 20th Jubilee Vienna Economic Forum - Vienna Future Dialogue 2023, as quoted by the government information service on Monday.
“In order to strengthen connectivity between countries, we need to fully build Corridor 8. It will not only ensure development along the East-West axis, but also build links with other routes in Eastern Europe," he added.
The Prime Minister took part in a panel discussion on "Building Economic Cooperation in Difficult Times" together with EU Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, Prime Ministers Dimitar Kovachevski of North Macedonia and Albin Kurti of Kosovo and Deputy Prime Ministers Dumitru Alaiba of Moldova and Nik Deljosaj of Montenegro.
Denkov noted that work is underway on connecting the main northern Greek ports of Thessaloniki, Kavala and Alexandroupolis with the Bulgarian sea and river ports on the Black Sea and the Danube. "The construction of the relevant infrastructure will help the development of the entire Balkan region and bring benefits to people and businesses," he explained.
Good connectivity in Eastern Europe will bring many benefits to all European citizens, Denkov pointed out. "Europe is an example of a multicultural society that should be valued every day", he said and urged his colleagues to work in sync to overcome difficulties and turn problems into opportunities.
