Day 9: NAVAL RSV 421 Is South of Majorca, En Route to Cartagena

In the morning hours of January 4, the military research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (NAVAL RSV 421) continued to hold a course due west across the Mediterranean to the Spanish port of Cartagena, the first stop on the voyage to Livingston Island.

As of 8:30 am Bulgarian time, the vessel was 120 nautical miles south of the Spanish island of Majorca and 40 nautical miles north of the coast of Algeria. NEC 421 is proceeding at 9.5 knots in favourable weather conditions, with a light easterly wind, while sea waves are between 0 and 0.5 degrees Douglas.

In 240 miles, the ship will approach the coast of Spain, where she will make two turns towards Cartagena. This is expected to happen at around 09:30 on 5 January. NAVAL RSV 421 is on a historic maiden voyage to Livingstone Island to support the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition. The journey to the Bulgarian Antarctic base on the island is expected to last about 40 days.
