Day 8: Sailing North of Tunisia, Algeria

The Bulgarian military research/survey vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (NAVAL RSV 421) is continuing on its course westward across the Mediterranean on the eighth day of its journey keeping its course towards Cartagena, Spain, which will be its first stop along its journey towards Livingston Island, where NAVAL RSV 421 will join the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition.

In the early hours on Tuesday morning the ship approached the African shore. Around 0900 hours she sailed by the Galite Islands, north of Tunisia and to the northeast of Algeria. Good visibility allowed a clear view of the African shore to the crew and the cadets of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna.

The earlier waves have subsided to 0.5 degrees Douglas and weather conditions are good, with slightly higher frontal breeze.

The ship's Senior Assistant Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Radko Muevski, explained the location of the ship to BTA, stating it is following a course of direct entry into the port of Cartagena, expected around noon on January 5.

BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on the ship to Livingston Island and back, and will cover the Bulgarian expedition on site throughout their stay in Antarctica.
