Vazrazhdane MP candidate in Burgas Zvezdelina Karavelova addressed questions to the Environment and Water Minister on Wednesday regarding the lack of an adequate reaction concerning unpleasant smells that have been plaguing the residents of the city for months.

"For more than three months, residents and guests of Burgas have been reporting sharp, suffocating smells. They appear in the daylight hours and are like the smell of petroleum products or gas. As an MP, I have been alerted many times. However, the culprit is yet to be identified," Karavelova said in her letter to the minister.

She recalled that none of the representatives of the responsible institutions gave information about the source of the smells at a September 12 extraordinary meeting of the Committee on Environment, Agriculture and Food of the Burgas Municipal Council.

The candidate also said the concerns of local people are reinforced by data from the Regional Health Inspectorate on an increase in respiratory diseases in the city in recent years.
