The leaders of EU institutions congratulated Moldova in posts on the social network X on the occasion of Sunday’s parliamentary elections, won by the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity.
“Our door is open,” wrote European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. She promised that the EU would stand with Moldova at every step of the country’s European path. Von der Leyen noted that attempts to spread fear and division in Moldova did not stop voters from supporting the path toward Europe, democracy, and freedom.
“The future of Moldova is in Europe,” wrote European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. She described the elections as a historic step forward on the road to democracy, hope, and opportunity.
“The people of Moldova have spoken and their message is loud and clear. They chose democracy, reform, and a European future, in the face of pressure and interference from Russia. The EU stands with Moldova. Every step of the way,” wrote European Council President Antonio Costa.
“Despite Russia’s massive efforts to spread disinformation and buy votes, no force can stop a people committed to freedom,” wrote EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
