Amnesty International Bulgaria marked July 17, International Criminal Justice Day, with a protest at the central beach in Burgas under the slogan “STOP THE GENOCIDE IN GAZA,” the human rights watchdog reported on Thursday.
Activists and volunteers unfurled a massive red line along the shoreline to symbolize that all limits have long been crossed by Israel, and to call for an immediate end to what Amnesty describes as crimes against humanity committed in Gaza. The red line also represented the impossibility of delivering international humanitarian aid into the conflict zone due to Israel’s unlawful blockade, which has led to deaths from starvation and killings of civilians while queuing for aid.
Amnesty International Bulgaria Director Nayden Rashkov said that international law must be upheld, and all perpetrators of crimes must be brought to justice. “The images from the Gaza Strip show an almost unimaginable level of destruction and human suffering. It is unacceptable for us to witness genocide live and carry on with life as usual. Nothing about what is happening in Gaza is normal, we have no right to stay silent while some of the worst crimes against humanity are taking place right now,” he emphasized.
The organization has launched a global petition calling for humanitarian aid access to Gaza and an immediate end to the genocide of Palestinians: http://amn.st/StopTheGenocide.
