Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov will participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels, Belgium on February 24, the Ministry said.
The meeting is expected to focus on topics related to the market situation following the war in Ukraine and the implementation of the impact assessment principle in rural areas.
In addition, the European Commission will present its communication “Vision for Agriculture and Food: Shaping together an attractive farming and agri-food sector for future generations”. This communication sets out a roadmap for the direction of agricultural and food policy in the EU for the next five year
In the middle of this week, the Government approved Bulgaria's position for the upcoming meeting. In connection with the expected discussion during the meeting on the effect of implementing the impact assessment principle on rural areas, Bulgaria believes that it is necessary to overcome the fragmentation in the policy for their development and define clearer goals. Rural areas need more services, better education, support for lifelong learning and events to promote their social and economic development, the Cabinet press service said at the time.
The first meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council for 2025 took place at the end of January, with a focus on amending the Common Market Organisation Regulation and strengthening the position of farmers in the food supply chain.
