Bulgarian President Rumen Radev made a national statement at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29, the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan between November 11 and 222. 

Radev stressed that the continuity of actions is crucial to deliver ambitious and balanced approach to achieve the climate goals in the complex geopolitical context. 

He noted that, now that there is a clear direction given by the Global Stocktake outcome, agreeing on an achievable New Collective Quantitative Goal on Finance will be the main expected outcome of this Conference. , stressing that the new goal should ensure funding from all possible sources, both public and private, to secure adaptation and mitigation measures with a focus on the most vulnerable countries.

Radev told participants at the Baku Climate Summit that a significant boost in ambitions to mitigate the effects of climate change and stay on course to decarbonize global energy systems is needed. "This can only happen if we embrace all available technologies, significantly improve energy efficiency, upgrade energy infrastructure and ensure that energy security remains of utmost priority," he stressed.

Bulgaria is committed to not only to be part of the initiatives for regional energy cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Black Sea region, but also to strengthen the links between the European Union and non-EU countries, who share priorities on climate neutrality, just energy transition, energy security and low-carbon technological innovation, the Bulgarian President pointed out.
"As no region is spared front deadly and costly climate-related disasters, all parties should undertake greater efforts to integrate climate change adaptation and resilience into all policies and strategies," he said. 

Radev called for continuing support for climate science and education and pointed out that Bulgaria hosted the IPCC session this summer. "Science holds the key not just to reducing our carbon footprint, but also to improving human lives in an age of climate instability," he said.

Radev concluded by conclude by reiterating Bulgaria's commitment to climate policy goals. 

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev was among over 100 heads of state and government participating in the World Leaders Climate Action Summit within the framework of COP29 in Baku. The two-day summit is a platform for world leaders to state goals and national climate ambitions that will translate into real political and economic results.
