Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said on Sunday in his speech at the Summit of the Future in New York that such initiatives are crucial at a time when people face a myriad of problems, including military conflicts, the climate crisis and inequality. The Summit of the Future took place on September 22 and 23 on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Glavchev said that the aim of the Summit and the Pact for the Future is to find multilateral solutions that bring global institutions and formats in line with today's social, political and economic realities. He added that he expects them to create a safer, sustainable and fairer world where no one is abandoned by the international community.

At the heart of these efforts, he said, is the rule of law, which is essential to upholding international norms, establishing justice and promoting cooperation.

He noted that account must be taken of the technologies that are rapidly transforming our societies.

"Our goal is a free and secure digital world with universal access to the internet. We strive for a human-centred, rights-based digital future that uses artificial intelligence to achieve and guarantee information integrity," the caretaker Prime Minister stressed.

"We need to incorporate the views and interests of youth and future generations into our policies by actively listening to young people," he said.

In his speech, he argued for imposing a significant transformation of global governance.

"We need to modernize the UN organization, making sure that it remains relevant and capable of responding to the challenges of the 21st century. This includes reforming the Security Council by adding additional seats for permanent and non-permanent members," Dimitar Glavchev pointed out.

He stressed that Bulgaria remains firmly committed to an effective multilateral system and that it is dedicated to promoting international cooperation.

At the end of his speech, the caretaker Prime Minister called for unity around cooperation and decisive action.

"Let us not disappoint the young and the future generations," Glavchev concluded.

The Summit of the Future aims to address challenges and gaps in global governance and revitalize the multilateral system with the UN at its core. Earlier today, the Pact for the Future was adopted.
