Bulgarian para-athlete Ruzhdi Ruzhdi claimed his sixth world title in the F55 shot put at the World Para Athletics Championships in Delhi, India. The two-time Paralympic champion from Rio 2016 and Paris 2024 secured first place with a new world record, surpassing his own previous best by 26 centimetres.

Ruzhdi led the competition from his very first throw in the final, registering one of only two attempts over 12 metres among the ten competitors with a mark of 12.38. He held the lead until the very end, when he made a successful push for the world record, reaching 12.94 metres and improving on his 2023 Paris World Championships performance by 26 centimetres.

This victory marks his third consecutive and sixth overall world title across the F55 and F56 classes, which differ in the athletes’ mobility levels. Ruzhdi first won world gold in Doha in 2015 and is also a three-time European champion across various classes between 2014 and 2016.

In other events, Bulgarian Fatme Ismail finished ninth in the women’s F13 javelin throw. Bulgarian athletes Hristiyan Stoyanov and Stela Eneva are also competing at the World Para Athletics Championships.
