The inaugural edition of the Zlatograd Bike n'Run marathon will take place on Saturday, the organizers told BTA. More than 250 competitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Spain and the UK have registered for the race so far.

The race will include a 44 km cycling race followed by a 14 km mountain run.

Zlatograd Deputy Mayor Elmira Pehlivanova said that the event is not just a sports forum but also a cause to promote the region's culture and traditions.

Other than the duathlon athletes can also compete in pure running (44, 24 or 14 km) or cycling (44 or 24 km) disciplines. Children under 16 can also compete on 5.4 km courses for free.

The organizers plan to turn Zlatograd Bike n'Run into an annual event. It is registered with the UTMB Index Race, a qualifying race for the UTMB World Series.
