Nearly 500 competitors from 17 countries took part in the International “Advanced Tournament in Informatics – John Atanasoff” in Shumen on April 19 and 20. Informaticians from Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Egypt, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine demonstrated their knowledge in the field of competitive informatics, while participants from Belarus, Russia and Tatarstan competed under a neutral flag. Young IT specialists from Bulgaria, Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived in Shumen for the tournament, while the rest competed online.

The Bulgarian competitors won five gold medals and 30 silver and bronze medals, which once again showed that Bulgaria is among the global powers in competitive informatics, chair of the organizing committee Dr. Bisserka Yovcheva told BTA.

The tournament was held under the patronage of President Rumen Radev and the Rector of Shumen University, Prof. Nataliya Vitanova. Traditionally, its organizers are the Municipality of Shumen, the university in the town, the local School “A&B”, and BTA is a media partner of the event.
