The men's World Cup slalom in Bansko, southwestern Bulgaria, was cancelled after 31 starters on Sunday due to bad weather conditions.
The first 31 skiers out of the 70 entered on the list were able to start, but for the next skiers, it was impossible because of the reduced visibility and the unstoppable rain over the Banderitsa slope in Bansko.
Bulgarian Albert Popov, was in 22nd place after the first race. He was 3.59 seconds behind Olympic champion Clement Noel, who was leading the race.
Popov did not make any rough mistakes, but the bad weather conditions definitely affected him. The weather over Bansko was very bad, as it had been raining since the morning, mixed with snow. This significantly reduced the visibility of all skiers, especially those after start number 15. The rain also softened the track terribly and after the passage of number 31 - Billy Major from Great Britain, the organizers decided to temporarily stop the race, which eventually led to its cancellation.
