Prices of most staple foods, fruit and vegetables increased on Bulgaria’s wholesale markets this week, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said on Sunday.
The wholesale food price index rose by 0.56% to 2.273 points, up from 2.260 a week earlier. The base value of 1.000 was set in 2005.
Among vegetables monitored by the commission, dry onions saw the highest price increase, rising 11.31% to BGN 1.23 per kg. Cabbage increased by 5.15% to BGN 1.02 per kg, potatoes by 3.98% to BGN 1.11 per kg, green peppers by 3.28% to BGN 1.97 per kg, and carrots by 3.09% to BGN 1.25 per kg. Zucchini prices decreased by 7.94% to BGN 1.45 per kg. Red peppers declined by 3.3% to BGN 2.20 per kg, and cucumbers dropped by 1.66% to BGN 2.37 per kg. Tomato prices fell by 2.07% to BGN 2.07 per kg.
Peach prices increased by 3.54% to BGN 4.02 per kg, while watermelon prices rose 2.56% to BGN 0.70 per kg. Grape prices declined 2.93% to BGN 2.90 per kg, apple prices fell 2.12% to BGN 2.77 per kg, and lemon prices dropped 1.68% to BGN 4.40 per kg.
White brined cheese made from cow’s milk increased by 1.99% to BGN 12.07 per kilogram, while kashkaval (Vitosha type) rose by 0.79% to BGN 17.80 per kilogram. Yogurt with 3% fat or higher went up by 1.27% to BGN 1.40 per 400 g cup, and fresh milk increased by 2.01% to BGN 2.28 per litre. Butter (125 g pack) rose by 0.56% to BGN 3.12 per pack.
Frozen poultry increased by 1.08% to BGN 7.02 per kg. Medium-sized eggs rose by 2.7%, reaching a wholesale price of BGN 0.38 each.
Rice rose 0.68% to BGN 3.31 per kg, while type 500 flour declined 0.84% to BGN 1.47 per kg. Sunflower oil increased 0.85% to BGN 3.25 per litre, and sugar dropped 2.04% to BGN 1.80 per kg. Mature beans grew 2.02% to BGN 4.29 per kg, and lentils inched up 0.23% to BGN 4.35 per kg.
