Sofia marks the European Day of Languages with its traditional Language Fair on September 27. The European Day of Languages has been celebrated for 25 years on September 26. Sofia marks the Day with events dedicated to the initiative, according to the official website of the European Commission Representation in Sofia.

The programme for September 26 included a virtual round table on Language skills: your bridge to the jobs of the future. The purpose of the round table was to give participants a chance to examine how the European Commission supports multilingualism, language learning, and linguistic diversity.

On September 27, the traditional Language Fair will be held in the City Garden in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, marking the European Day of Languages and International Translation Day, September 30. The Language Fair is organized jointly by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University, language and cultural institutes from the European Union National Institutes of Culture in Bulgaria, consulates, and embassies, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation said.

The Lyubomir Andreychin Institute for the Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the traditional Language Fair with its campaign Written Words Remain! Write Correctly!, the Institute said.

The Directorate-General for Translation announced that the initiative also includes an online language quiz, which is open for participation until September 30.

The initiative began in 2001, declared European Year of Languages at the initiative of the Council of Europe in conjunction with the European Union, to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of the Old Continent, and encourage the learning of foreign languages at all ages to enhance intercultural understanding.
