Holcim Bulgaria AD has introduced the country's first environmental product declarations for all its cements and concretes, said the company in a press release on Friday.

These declarations provide detailed information on the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle and support the construction sector in choosing more sustainable solutions.

"We have invested in modernization of the production and sustainable practices, increasing the use of alternative fuels and raw materials", the company emphasised to BTA, adding that 2024 was dynamic, challenging, but also very successful.

The company noted that personnel shortage is a major challenge, which is why it hires employees with little experience, develops and trains them. They also work actively with local authorities and educational institutions, implementing programmes to promote careers in the industry.

During 2024, the company supported the villages of Beli Izvor, Vlasatitsa and Lilyache by financing infrastructure, environmental and cultural projects. The company provided the transport for the participants in the National Tourist Walk Kozloduy-Okolchitsa. Over 500 tons of cement and 5,500 tons of crushed stone have been donated for the repair of roads and infrastructure in Vratsa, the company stressed.

The cement plant in the village of Beli Izvor began its activity in 1960, before being purchased by the Swiss multinational company Holcim Group in 1997, which is one of the largest building materials company in the world and operates in 75 countries on all continents. Holcim Bulgaria is distinguished by high energy efficiency and a low carbon footprint, with the company being among the largest and long-standing employers in Vratsa Municipality.
