The government replaced the entire leadership of the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP), the Council of Ministers reported on Wednesday. The leadership now comprises Maria Filipova as chair and Alexander Kolyachev and Tsvetislava Lakova as members.
On Tuesday, the National Assembly dismissed Filipova as deputy chair of the Financial Supervision Commission after she bid to resign, citing personal reasons.
The Inspectorate at the Ministry of Economy and Industry has received 132 alerts against the previous CCP leadership. Based on that, the Inspectorate has conducted checks which have confirmed the validity of most of the alerts. The malpractices referred to in the reports have discredited the CCP as an authority exercising control for the protection of consumers, the press release said.
