All campervans, regardless of their maximum authorized weight, will pay a vignette fee for category M1, Parliament decided on Wednesday with the amendments to the Roads Act voted on second reading. The amendments were introduced by the Council of Ministers.

Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Nastimir Ananiev said that all camping vehicles with a mass of 3.5 tonnes have so far paid a vignette, but there were some that were heavier and were treated as trucks, which made it very difficult for people who chose to vacation this way.

According to him, Parliament has now resolved this case and all camping vehicles, regardless of their mass, will be able to use Bulgarian roads with a vignette. Ananiev said it was a positive sign for a more nature-friendly way of vacationing.

MPs voted to allow so-called "campervan maintenance points" to be set up on existing roads. CC-DB MP Miroslava Petrova said that thus the state will give an opportunity to raise the standard in terms of camping tourism and camping culture in the country.
