site.btaPresident Radev Meets with English Historian Bethany Hughes, as Her Team Shoots Documentary Episode on Bulgaria

President Rumen Radev met with prominent historian Prof. Bethany Hughes, the press centre of the head of State said on Wednesday. The development of the relationship between cultural and historical heritage, tourism and the economy should be a consistent state policy, Radev said.

The English historian, author and presenter of documentaries filmed with her team historical and cultural sights in Bulgaria, which she will present in an episode of her series Treasures of the World. The series focuses on cultural tangible and intangible heritage and is broadcast in 120 countries with an audience of over 200 million people. The episode dedicated to Bulgaria will be broadcast at the beginning of next year. 

In May, then-caretaker Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov held a meeting with Prof. Hughes, where the possibility of filming an episode of the documentary series focusing on Bulgaria, was discussed.

Prof. Bethany Hughes expressed her admiration for the rich Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage, which traces over 1,000 years of the development of human civilization, as well as her work with Bulgarian scientists. Hughes said that Bulgaria should invest in the international recognition of the country as a tourist destination, as the promotion of culture, history and traditions will increase the interest of many more people to visit Bulgaria.
