The 38th edition of the Kinomania Film Festival opened in Sofia Wednesday evening. In his opening remarks, Culture Minister Nayden Todorov said there can't be many cultural events in Bulgaria that have survived as long as Kinomania: since 1987. "It is a phenomenal festival because what you will see is not the box office hits but what has the most artistic value," the Minister added.

Kinomania started in 1987 as the World Cinema Panorama. Throughout the years, it has gained strong recognition and a loyal audience. The programme of each edition premieres some of the best examples of the world film industry.

The 38th edition will run until December 1st with screenings at the NDK convention centre, Odeon, the Cinema House, Euro Cinema, G8, Vlaikova Cinema and Slaveykov Hall, as well as Lucky House of Cinema, Plovdiv and FCC - Varna.

This year's programme includes 50 films from around the world, including several Bulgarian premieres, said Kinomania programme director Hristo Hristozov. He said the "biggest news and the biggest guest" is Italian actress Stefania Sandrelli, who will be coming to Kinomania on November 23.

The first film to be screened was Tarika of Bulgarian director Milko Lazarov.

The 38th edition of Kinomania is organized by NDK and the I Have an Idea Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the National Film Center and Sofia Municipality. It is part of the Sofia Cultural Calendar for 2024.
