site.btaDrug-Related Arrests and Investigations Increase in September
The number of arrests and investigations in Bulgaria related to the production, processing, acquisition, possession, and distribution of drugs increased in September 2025 compared to August 2025, according to data from a joint specialized unit of the Prosecution Service and the Ministry of Interior, released by the press office of the Prosecution Service on Wednesday.
A total of 1,147 individuals were detained between September 1 and 30, compared to 921 in August. A total of 1,003 pretrial proceedings were launched in September, up from 829 the previous month. In addition, 2 kilogrammes of fentanyl were found and seized across the country during the same period.
In combating illegal migration, 92 individuals were detained in September and 27 pretrial proceedings were initiated for illegally transporting people across the national border or assisting foreign nationals in residing in or passing through the country unlawfully.
This compares to 65 pretrial proceedings related to illegal migration initiated in August.
