Yes, Bulgaria co-chair Bozhidar Bozhanov said that his party will discuss arguments with Continue the Change, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria and legal experts for annulment of the municipal council election results in Pazardzhik.
“Everyone saw the unprecedented vote buying,” Bozhanov emphasized. However, whether the court would accept that vote buying distorted the outcome is something the parties and legal teams will need to evaluate, he added.
Yes, Bulgaira co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev said that he personally observed the election process in one of the villages. “The results show that Peevski bought the election once again,” he commented, calling it part of a broader process—on one hand, the capture of institutions, and on the other, the weakening of GERB and the humiliation of Borissov, who ended up as the sixth political force in Pazardzhik.
“Tomorrow, I expect Borissov to line up in front of Peevski’s photo studio and pose under the national coat of arms, because he brought this on himself,” Mirchev added sarcastically.
To those who keep asking why Yes, Bulgaria always talks about Delyan Peevski and whether he’s really the biggest problem in the country, Mirchev responded:“Today it’s Pazardzhik, tomorrow it’ll be other cities if we don’t act and keep pretending this isn’t happening.”
He also criticized the Ministry of Interior for its handling of the situation. “In Ognyanovo village, in the Roma neighborhood, there were luxury vehicles from out of town, which clearly don’t belong there. No explanation was given as to what they were doing there. Thousands of leva were found inside, along with lists, and the police just said everything was fine,” Mirchev said.
“Everything’s fine, when Peevski controls the Ministry and the prosecution,” he added.
According to Mirchev, the low voter turnout was due to the nature of the election - partial local elections with no vote for mayor.
Bozhanov and Mirchev spoke to the media after attempting to meet with Anton Slavchev, the acting head of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
