A comprehensive study is needed by regions to determine which specialists are lacking on the labor market, said Sunday Veliko Tarnovo Mayor and Chairman of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB), Daniel Panov, addressing participants at a discussion panel on the technological transformation of Bulgarian education: during the Annual Meeting of Local Authorities in Albena. The event is organized by NAMRB.
According to Panov, the study should be conducted jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. In areas where there are universities, there is no shortage of skilled workers, but in other places it is difficult, and schools must adapt to the labor market, Panov stressed.
As a problem, he pointed out irreplaceable school principals, whose level of innovation is not always adequate. Panov was clear that the approach of the Ministry of Education and Science towards these leadership positions must change. There needs to be an evaluation mechanism, and if the quality of education provided to the children is insufficient, the principal should be dismissed, he said
Panov also said that serious consideration should be given to standardizing the practices regarding whether schools pay a waste disposal fee or not.
