Speaking to reporters on Thursday during the closing of the interactive Escape Truck campaign to prevent sexual and labour exploitation outside Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said that there is currently no water crisis in Bulgaria.
“In the past ten days alone, the number of people without access to drinking water has been cut in half,” Zafirov said. He attributed this improvement partly to the recent rainfall, but also to the efforts of the state-owned Water and Sewerage Holding, local utility operators, and the National Water Board established to address supply deficits.
Zafirov emphasized that there are no regions in distress at the moment. “In Pleven and Lovech, water supply has been fully restored,” he said.
He also reported that in the town of Breznik (Pernik Region), the level of the main water source supplying the area has risen by more than 50 centimetres, while manganese concentrations in the network have dropped sharply. “Additional drilling operations have been carried out, providing further water supply,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.
