site.btaBulgaria to Join Jutland Declaration for Better Protection of Minors Online

The Bulgarian Government has approved Bulgaria's participation in the Jutland Declaration, which aims to create a safer online environment for children and young people. This initiative is part of the Danish presidency of the Council of Europe. According to Denmark, while the European Union has taken significant regulatory steps to shape the digital landscape, additional measures are required to safeguard minors online.
The document outlines a holistic approach to strengthening digital protections, ensuring that EU children and young people can enjoy the positive aspects of digital transformation while being safeguarded against its harmful effects. The declaration emphasizes the need to strengthen measures to address these risks, given the growing negative impact of excessive social media use on mental health. It also calls for joint efforts by EU Member States to effectively enforce existing regulations, improve digital literacy and support parents and teachers.
It is envisaged that EU Member States will join the Declaration before the informal EU Council meeting on transport, telecommunications and energy, scheduled for October 9-10, 2025, in Horsens, Denmark.
