Radostin Vasilev, leader of the Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) party, told journalists in Parliament on Wednesday that Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev has his party's full support in his fight against companies submitting bids three times higher than the indicative value for waste collection in order to “steal nearly a billion from the municipality”.
Terziev has already been mayor for two years and should know that by governing Sofia he is in direct confrontation with the mafia, Vasilev stated. He added that waste management companies are often linked to criminal interests, saying that the problem is not their existence but the lack of decisive action from the mayor. “He waited for a crisis instead of trying to change or terminate the contracts,” Vasilev said.
Vasilev also commented on the recent flooding disaster, saying that the issue “is not on the agenda of those in power.” According to him, responsibility is being passed between local and national authorities.
