site.btaPM Sees Renewed Confidence Placed in His Government

The government has received renewed confidence, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told journalists on Friday in the seaside town of Sozopol, where he was observing a border police exercise. Zhelyazkov noted that an effective vote of no confidence requires at least 20 more MPs to support it, referring to the fifth no-confidence vote against his cabinet, which was rejected on Thursday.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support from the parliamentary groups of the ruling majority — GERB–UDF, BSP–United Left, and There Is Such a People — as well as from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms–New Beginning, even though it is not officially part of the majority.
Regarding the parliamentary debates on the no-confidence motion, the Prime Minister emphasized that the arguments raised had been heard before, both in 2024 and in recent days, but it remained unclear how the separation of powers should gain support from politicians in Bulgaria. “We understand that it seems the political class seeks to resolve political issues not in Parliament, but on the streets; that justice should be administered not in the courtroom, but elsewhere; and that institutions do not cooperate with one another,” Zhelyazkov added.
In his view, the situation is different: there is a need for stability to address problems where they belong and within the constitutionally established order. Only in this way can the needs of society be met, starting with a functioning economy, through income levels, to an effective judicial system, the Prime Minister stated.
