Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev Wednesday thanked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for partnering with the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) with the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and expressed the hope that more Bulgarian scientists and talents will join the programme, visit INSAIT and then achieve scientific and professional success there in the field of AI and computer science. Valchev was speaking at the official launch of the joint programme between INSAIT and MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at the INSAIT headquarters in Sofia.
After five years of existence, INSAIT has not only met the goals of its establishment but it has also exceeded them many times over, Valchev said in his speech. "Thanks to INSAIT, Bulgaria is on the map of artificial intelligence development," he added.
MIT consistently ranks first in global engineering and technology rankings, including first in the QS World University Rankings for Computer Science and Technology. The CSAIL is the largest computer science research lab at MIT and is behind iconic advances such as RSA cryptography, the first autonomous robots, and many of the foundations of modern machine learning.
CSAIL is developing innovative projects with US government agencies and with world-leading companies that are defining the future of artificial intelligence and computer science, the Ministry of Education explains.
The event was also attended by Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev, US Charge d’Affaires in Bulgaria Martin McDowell, Sofia University Vice Rector Tony Spassov, INSAIT Scientific Director and Founder Martin Vechev, INSAIT Executive Director Borislav Petrov, MIT CSAIL Director Armando Solar-Lezama, and America for Bulgaria Foundation Executive Director Desislava Taliokova.
