GERB-UDF will support a draft resolution, proposed by There Is Such a People (TISP) to reinstate the parliamentary group of MECh. They also stand behind the statement of National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova in an attempt to resolve the situation, GERB-UDF deputy floor leader Denitsa Sacheva told a news briefing in Parliament on Tuesday.
In her words, the rule of law must be meaningful.
GERB-UDF are deeply outraged by the statements of MECh leader Radostin Vasilev, said Sacheva. GERB-UDF believe that Vasilev is unworthy of serving as deputy chair of the National Assembly, but they will not seek his resignation and will leave the decision up to him.
“We stand for finding a reasonable, legitimate solution to the crisis, but we strongly condemn all attacks against the leader of the National Assembly, especially the rude insults and ugly language,” Sacheva said. “We stand firmly against the hate speech, the calls for "arson", "for bloodshed in the Bulgarian Parliament". This behaviour is unacceptable, and if Radostin Vasilev really has honour and dignity, he should find a way to apologize,” the MP stressed.
According to Parliament Deputy Speaker Raya Nazaryan, the spirit of parliamentarism has been missing in the National Assembly for a long time, and its restoration is done only through strict observance of the Constitution, parliamentary rules and the laws. “Where there are deficiencies, they should be filled so that the rule of law can be respected. In no case is the rule of law restored by calls for violence, for aggression, expressed through extremely crude hate speech,” Nazaryan said. She said that GERB-UDF have never participated in any discussion about changing the leadership of the National Assembly, the number of groups and the composition of the current parliament, much less about the suspension of the existence of any parliamentary group.
