Law enforcement authorities from the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Border Police and the Customs Agency intercepted over 50 kg of cocaine and synthetic cannabinoid, the Interior Ministry said Monday. The operation was conducted on March 1 at Kapitan Andreevo customs office on the border with Turkiye, with the officers seizing 23.900 kg of cocaine and 27.240 kg of synthetic cannabinoid (MDMB-4en-PINAKA). 

The van, in which 47 packages were found in special caches, was identified in the course of an investigation by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of persons involved in drug trafficking from Western Europe to Turkiye via Bulgaria.

Pre-trial proceedings on the case have been launched under the supervision of Haskovo District Prosecution Office. The driver of the van, a Turkish-born German citizen, 39, was arrested and his detention was extended to 72 hours. He has been charged with drug trafficking.

The drugs are worth a total of BGN 4,628,880 at prices for the needs of court proceedings, the Customs Agency said.
