Election Day began in Auckland, New Zealand, said the Foreign Ministry. Due to the time difference, the polling station there opened on Saturday at 9 pm Bulgarian time.
Polling stations on the West Coast of the USA and Canada closed last, at 5:00 am Bulgarian time on Monday, October 28.
Bulgarians abroad voted in 719 polling stations in 57 countries. The most sections will be opened in Turkiye (168), United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (112), Germany (66), Spain (64), USA (53), Italy (27), Netherlands (25), Greece (23), France (17), Austria and Belgium (16 each), Canada (15 sections).
Machine voting will took place in a total of 157 sections - 79 machines in Turkey, 21 in Germany, 14 in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, 6 each in Spain and the USA, 5 each in Austria and Greece, 4 in the Netherlands, 3 each in France and Belgium, 2 each in Canada, Cyprus, Czechia and Switzerland, 1 machine each in Luxembourg, Norway and Serbia.
All 157 voting machines were delivered on time to machine voting sections by air to distant destinations and by own transport to countries close to Bulgaria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The information on the addresses of the opened election sections abroad by country is published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Bulgaria are in contact with the local authorities and are ready to react in case of difficulties in order to guarantee the right to vote of the Bulgarian citizens, added the Foreign Ministry.
A total of 19 parties, nine coalitions and one independent candidate are participating in the National Assembly elections. MP candidates are a total of 4,855 people. Of them, 1,377 are women, and 3,478 are men. A total of 1,176 people are candidates from two districts.
