Interior Ministry: Special Operations Underway to Combat Crimes Against Citizens' Political Rights

The Interior Ministry is conducting special operations in Montana, Stara Zagora and Sofia region to prevent crimes against the political rights of citizens, Mitko Dimitrov, director of the Press and Strategic Communications Directorate at the Interior Ministry, told a briefing on Monday.

A total of 193 police operations have taken place since the beginning of the campaign, 37 people have been detained and 73 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.

The number of alerts received for violation of the election legislation is 308, most of them in Burgas - 48 and Varna - 34. More than 200 of the reports were for vote-buying, 13 for illegal campaigning, 10 for destruction of property and three for corporate voting.

There were 971 warning notices issued under the Ministry of Interior Act.

The Interior Ministry added that as of Monday, October 21, any citizen who does not have a valid identity document can apply for and obtain a certificate to be used only before the Section Election Commissions and only on election day, October 27.
