A specialised police operation to prevent crimes related to the political rights of citizens is being carried out in Ruse and the region, said the spokeswoman of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Daniela Malcheva.

She explained that the operation involves officers from all subdivisions of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Ruse, from the six regional police stations, from the sectors for counteracting economic crimes, from the security and territorial police, traffic police, experts, investigating police officers, as well as gendarmerie officers.  

Checkpoints have been set up at the entry and exit points of settlements and different neighbourhoods, Malcheva added.

She added that the actions of law enforcement officers are also aimed at countering petty crime, stabilizing the security environment and ensuring the public order, as well as road safety. The operation will continue throughout the day.

Searches focus on perpetrators of crimes and other violations, motor vehicles, persons, properties and places suspected of possible activity in violation of election legislation, commercial establishments, pawnshops, as well as establishments offering firewood, convenience stores, etc. are being checked, Malcheva added.

The Regional Police Directorate promised to announce interim results in the afternoon.
