site.btaFlotilla Admiral Kalin Kalinov Takes Over as Head of Naval Academy in Varna

Flotilla Admiral Prof. Kalin Kalinov took over as head of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna at an official ceremony on Tuesday. He is replacing long-time rector Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov. "I promise to keep our head up, but also to be careful where we are stepping," Kalinov said.

The ceremony was attended by Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliko Preslav, Deputy Defence Minister Radostin Iliev, Regional Governor Andriyana Andreeva, Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, senior officers, representatives of the maritime industry, and public figures.

Kalinov thanked Prof. Mednikarov for the honour to work together for 13 years for the sake of the academy’s development and for being his mentor, instructor, and science supervisor.

During the ceremony Prof. Mednikarov handed over the flag of the Naval Academy to the new head of the school, as well as the symbol of power of the university - a navy sabre, which Kalinov promised not to take out without a reason and to put it away with honour. A congratulatory address from President Rumen Radev was also read out.
