Israel's Ambassador to Bulgaria Yosef Levi Sfari attended Monday a commemoration ceremony at Sofia's Central Synagogue marking  a year since the unprecedented attack carried out by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. He stressed that this war is not about a piece of land but about Israel's right to exist as a nation. "In this fight, Israel needs its allies. We need steadfast friendship and support," he added. 

Last year's attack led to war in the Gaza Strip, which then spread to neighboring Lebanon against Hezbollah.

"Words are powerless, there are no words to truly describe the atrocities of that day. Numbers can offer greater clarity. However, dry statistics cannot describe the effects on Israelis," said Levi Sfari. "October 7th never ended. The nightmare continues. Thousands of Israelis are recovering from their injuries and others are waiting to return to their destroyed homes," he added and expressed thanks to Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people for their support.
