The disaster that has struck Bosnia and Herzegovina, the innocent lives lost, the destruction of roads, buildings and critical infrastructure are a cause for empathy, but first and foremost for mobilization for help from nearby nations and states, said Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chair and Floor Leader Delyan Peevski, as quoted by the MRF - New Beginning coalition in a press release on Sunday.

"I call on [caretaker] Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Defence Minister Gen. Atanas Zapryanov and Chief of Defence AdmiralEmil Evtimov for an urgent response and organization to provide real help. As neighbours and friends, we in the Balkans must stand together when disaster or threat strikes. Bulgaria has the strength, the resources and it is time to use them to help those who need it most now. This is the moment to show that we are not indifferent and impartial to the pain and suffering of others," Peevski said.

Earlier in the day, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said that the Bulgarian Government is ready to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was swept by a heavy rainstorm during the night between Thursday and Friday, which killed dozens and flooded towns and villages in the central and southern parts of the country. Rescue services in the southern part of the country also reported several missing persons and called for volunteers and the army to help, as roads were closed and houses were left without electricity.
