site.btaHealthcare System in Vratsa on Verge of Bankruptcy, Says Vazrazhdane MP Candidate Papov

Vazrazhdane MP candidate in Vratsa Ivaylo Papov expressed serious concern about the state of the health system in the region, said the party on Thursday. 

At a meeting with residents, Papov emphasised that improving healthcare is one of the main priorities in his political programme. He noted that the Multispecialty Hospital in Vratsa is in a critical state, with debt of around BGN 18 million and a serious lack of medical specialists. According to him, the hospital has been the subject of continuous abuses for the past three decades, which has led to its virtual bankruptcy.

Papov drew attention to the lack of qualified personnel, which forces local residents to seek medical help in Pleven (North Bulgaria) and Sofia. "Hospitals should not function as commercial companies, but should instead be financed by the State. Funding should also be more equally distributed and not concentrated only on the costly clinical pathways," he stressed. 

Papov also criticised the lack of emergency ambulances in the region, saying that it is unacceptable that the municipalities of Oryahovo and Kozloduy have one ambulance for emergencies.
