The Cabinet should be commended for the successful evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from Beirut, as this is a good example of how institutions can work together quickly and effectively, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said here on Wednesday before the start of the regular Government meeting.
Glavchev praised the State Aviation Operator for being ready to act before the evacuation. The Prime Minister called the security services' work perfect and thanked partner services and allies. He emphasized that the successful evacuation was not just luck but a coordinated effort. "We also needed God's help, and in this case, God was a Bulgarian," he added, referring to the famous phrase uttered by legendary sportscaster Nikolay Kolev as Bulgaria scored a last-minute goal to qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
Bulgaria was one of the first countries to evacuate its citizens and their family members in less than 48 hours, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Tuesday.
