site.btaDefence Minister Meets with Argentina's Ambassador Alejandro Zothner Meyer

Caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov conferred with the Ambassador of Argentina to Bulgaria, Alejandro Zothner Meyer, here on Tuesday, the Defence Ministry said in a press release. The two discussed the bilateral relations in the field of defence and ways to deepen them.

Zapryanov expressed gratitude to Argentina and, in particular, its Navy for the exceptional support and significant contribution to the implementation of the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition, of which the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna (on the Black Sea) was part.

Within the talks, the sides discussed the bilateral partnership within NATO as well as possible fields of interaction between their armed forces. They highlighted the traditionally good relations in the field of military education and the opportunities that the Bulgarian higher military schools provide for training and exchange of experience.

The ongoing modernisation processes and the prospects for cooperation in the defence industry were also discussed.

The Bulgarian Deputy Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Mihail Popov, also participated in the meeting.
