- World Tourism Day.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1898: A 15 km railway line between Gebedzhe (today's Beloslav) and Devnya is unveiled.

1902: The Church of the Nativity of Christ is unveiled in Shipka, built in honour of those who fell in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation (1877-1878).

1918: The Soldiers' Uprising. Raiko Daskalov announces the monarch's ouster and declares Bulgaria a republic. Alexander Stamboliiski is declared head of an interim government.

1920: Diplomatic relations are established with Czechoslovakia.

1947: The Council of Ministers decrees the establishment of state-run farms.

1962: The St Cyril and St Methodius University is established in Veliko Turnovo.

1975: The Kozloduy N-plant's 440-MW Unit Two is commissioned (to be shut down on December 31, 2002, in keeping with Bulgaria's commitments ahead of EU accession).

1991: The first Supreme Judicial Council is constituted.

2007: Diplomatic relations are established with the Bahamas.

2007: Bulgaria signs the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
