The border authorities reported Friday a significant increase of 37,000 cars passing through the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse for the period from August 1 to 31 in 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

At peak times, nearly 9,000 cars left the country in the direction of Romania in just 24 hours, while on average 6,018 cars and light trucks left the country per day, compared to 4,809 in 2023. An on-the-spot check by Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov and Deputy Governor Georgi Georgiev showed that cars are waiting for about 15 – 20 minutes in order to cross the border from Bulgaria to Romania.

There is a slight drop in trucks passing through the Ruse-Giurgiu Bridge in both directions. Their stay in the parking lots is usually no more than 3-4 hours, with the exception of periods of intense traffic, when heavy goods vehicles would have to wait for up to a day. However, over 65,000 trucks crossed the border in August, making the total number of vehicles that passed through the border checkpoint during this month in 2024 about 29,000 more than in 2023.
