Far-right Vazrazhdane party submitted to the National Assembly a bill on foreign agents, the party's press centre said on Tuesday. "One of its main objectives is to ensure that media, associations, organization and foundations, which play a key role in forming public opinion, act in accordance with national interests and are not subject to external influences," the party argued.
The bill provides for mandatory registration of all persons and organizations, including politicians and political parties, that receive foreign funding in order to ensure full transparency and publicity of the sources of these funds and the purposes for which they are used.
According to the sponsors of the bill, the aim of the bill is to deprive the functioning of legal institutions from undue external influences, as well as to create a democratic and competitive environment in relations between all entities in the State.
"We have already submitted this bill to four parliaments. It is based on the best practices of the American legislation, but it has not been passed so far, probably because many politicians will come out in the open and it will be seen whose foreign interests they serve," Vazrazhdane Chair Kostadin Kostadinov was quoted as saying in the press release.
