The Dimitrovgrad Regional Court held a hearing on Friday regarding two men arrested on charges of possessing and trafficking firearms and ammunition. Regional Court Chair Ognyan Galabov remanded the two men in custody.

The charges against the two Dimitrovgrad residents, Nikolay Kolev (52) and Dimitar Kehayov (58), arrested during a raid by the Directorate General for Combating Organised Crime (DGCOC) on Thursday, are for possession and trafficking of weapons, components and ammunition.

DGCOC’s raid found a large cache of weapons (more than 300 firearms) at multiple locations in Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad and Sofia. DGCOC announced this at a press conference on Thursday. Because special intelligence means were employed in the investigation, the hearing is undergoing review in private.

Kehayov’s lawyer Ivan Stoyanov announced that his client and the other accused individual have made full confession. The supervising prosecutor for the case, Krasimira Neycheva, later confirmed that information. Asked by a journalist if Dimitar Kehayov was a former police officer, Neycheva declined to comment. Evidence suggests that these weapons, seized during DGCOC’s raid were acquired, reactivated, and remarketed.
